Root Canal Therapy in Northeast Edmonton
Hearing the words “root canal” can make people uneasy, but the treatment is often the very thing that brings relief. A root canal is used when the inner part of the tooth — the pulp — becomes infected or severely inflamed. Instead of removing the entire tooth, the infection is cleared and the tooth is saved. At our Northeast Edmonton dental clinic near Manning Town Centre, we provide root canal therapy with a focus on patient comfort and clear explanations at every step.

When a Root Canal Is Needed
An infection in the pulp can happen for different reasons. A deep cavity, a crack, or trauma to the tooth may all allow bacteria to reach the inside. The signs aren’t always the same for everyone, but common ones include lingering tooth pain, swelling, or sensitivity to hot and cold. Sometimes the tooth darkens or gums swell around the area. An exam and digital imaging help confirm the problem.
What the Procedure Involves
The process begins with numbing the tooth so you remain comfortable. The infected pulp is removed, the inside of the tooth is cleaned, and the canal is carefully shaped and filled. A temporary or permanent filling seals the tooth, and in many cases, a crown is recommended later to strengthen it further. The goal is simple: stop the infection, ease the pain, and keep the natural tooth in place.
Recovery and Follow-Up
Most people notice improvement right away as the source of pain is removed. Some soreness may last a few days, but it usually resolves with routine care. We provide instructions on caring for the tooth, and schedule follow-up to make sure healing is on track.
